The acquisition of Pechiney Électrométallurgie (FerroPem since 06.01.06) and its subsidiaries Invensil in France and Silicon Smelters in South Africa to the Group Alcan in 2005 meant a milestone in the growth process of our Group in the ferroalloy sector.
The integration of FerroPem, which meant the incorporation of its seven productive centers - six of which are located in France and one of them in South Africa- to Grupo Ferroatlántica, has enabled an outstanding increase of the Group's presence abroad, specially on the North American market which was already being covered by Ferroven, and which is one of the most important of our strategic markets.
With this acquisition, Grupo Ferroatlántica has completed its commercial range of products incorporating into its portfolio the nodulizers and inoculants used for the foundry sector, and what is more important, has enabled Grupo Ferroatlántica to become the first Western producer as well as one of the world leaders in silicon manufacturing.
In summary, the new Group emerging after the acquisition of the Ferropem Group, is remarkable for its important establishment globally, for its wide technological capacity in the silicon sector and for its commercial strength – deriving from the complementarity of its product range, which enables to cover a wide range in the offer aimed at the ferroalloy market.
